Obvara, also known as Baltic Raku, is an ancient ceramic firing technique originating in Eastern Europe in about the 12th Century
Pit Firing/
Saggar Firing
Ceramic pots are wrapped in various organic materials such as seaweed, fruit/ vegetable skins and coffee grounds. Naturally occurring compounds leave unique and unpredictable markings on the surface of the pots
Feather and
Horse Hair Raku
Natural feathers and horse hair are carefully draped onto heated pots, burning lasting unique images onto the surface
Naked Raku

Smoke penetrates the cracked surface of a sacrificial layer of clay which is then removed to reveal beautiful patterns on the 'naked' pot
