About Jeanette Walpole Ceramics
Although her background and career were in science, Jeanette has always had a passionate interest in the arts. Whilst living in Madrid for two years with her family, she discovered the joy of creating with clay. Under the instruction of local ceramicist Dolores Gage, she learned many techniques involved in hand building with stoneware clay.

“Madrid was a fabulous place to begin my clay journey. So many world class galleries full of fabulous art to explore. It’s such a fascinating and inspiring city, rich with tradition and culture”

On returning to the UK Jeanette developed her wheel throwing skills and immersed herself in learning about all aspects of making, firing and glazing ceramics. Working from her Hampshire garden studio, she is currently particularly interested in the many variations of outdoor firing. Using her homemade raku kiln, Jeanette produces unique glazed and naked pieces. She uses feathers, horse hair and a range of additional organic materials to influence the dramatic appearance of her pots.

Jeanette's unique, handcrafted ceramics are inspired and informed by the natural world and tends to shift through the year according to the colours and moods of the seasons.
